Books for SAYL

San Antonio Youth Literacy was given 1500 books by the PGA Tour Wives Association (PTWA) and the Valero Texas Open. Books were collected in part of Operation Literacy - Literacy Drives Dreams, a three-week campaign designed by the PTWA to bring awareness to the importance of literacy skills while giving back to tournament communities.

During Operation Literacy the PTWA helped bring area youth a unique and exciting way to get involved in reading and writing by sponsoring an essay and short-story writing contest: Operation Literacy -- San Antonio. Three finalists from each participating school were invited to an awards ceremony held on Wednesday, May 12, at TPC San Antonio, where PGA TOUR players were on hand to help announce the winners.

During the awards ceremony SAYL was given 1500 books for our "Let's Read!" program.

San Antonio Area Foundation Awards SAYL Funding

Through out the year, San Antonio Youth Literacy submits grant proposals to area foundations seeking support for our program. We are very happy to announce that thus far we have received financial support from the Zachry Foundation, the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, and the Alex and Sally Halff Family Foundation, and most recently from the San Antonio Area Foundation. All have made generous gifts to our organization to support our "Let's Read!" program. Thank you!

SAYL partners with San Antonio Youth Centers for the 2010 Summer Program

This summer SAYL is happy to announce a new partnership with San Antonio Youth Centers. The SAYL "Let's Read!" program will be taking place at two Youth Center locations, Dan Cook Youth Center and the Jefferson Learning Center, as part of the new collaboration. The hopes will be to continue this partnership into the 2010-2011 school year along with adding more SAYC sites for our after school locations.
