2009 Gala : Celebrating 25 Years

On Tuesday, April 14, SAYL held its annual gala at the Pearl Stable. This year’s event took a different spin with a talk show setting, Heloise Live: Conversations with Alamo City Authors. The evening’s show featured host Heloise, who is known for her syndicated column “Hints from Heloise.” Heloise entertained over 175 guests with her helpful hints while interviewing four area authors. Special guest authors included poet and children’s author Carmen Tafolla, local columnist and author Cary Clack, founder of San Antonio’s own Magik Theater and playwright Richard Rosen, and last but not least local businessman, philanthropist and author Red McCombs.

Guests were treated to a catered dinner by True Flavors Catering, along with a silent auction filled with treasures . The show wrapped up with a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate San Antonio Youth Literacy’s 25th anniversary.
