2008 Gala: Pickup a Book and Read!

On Tuesday, May 13th, SAYL celebrated the 2008 Pickup a Book and Read Gala, honoring the Toyota Motor Corporation for its strong commitment to children’s literacy through the Toyota Family Literacy Program. This year’s event was held at the University of the Incarnate Word Stanley & Sandra Rosenberg Skyroom. The evening was made even more memorable with special guest Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda, Honorary Chairman of Toyota and the son of its founder Kiichiro Toyoda.

Dr. Toyoda has received numerous honors including the prestigious Deming Prize and Knight Commander of the British Empire for his contributions to quality control in industry and for his support of international trade.

Over 350 guests were treated to scrumptious culinary delights by The RK Group and to the sweet sounds of San Antonio’s own Rick Cavender Band. Guests also had the chance to bid on silent auction items which included jewelry, sports collectibles, and spa packages, and many more treasures.
