Congratulations to Alexis De Leon, our SAYL Reading Buddy of the Month! Alexis is a first-year volunteer at Antonio Margil Elementary in SAISD, and initially heard about SAYL through her work. “I work for the Grand Hyatt of San Antonio, and our company is partnering with you. I have a bunch of younger siblings and a brother in 2nd grade, so I thought if I
Our spotlight school of the month is Rogers Academy of SAISD, and its Site Coordinator Dr. Holly Baker Hill. Hill has been working with our Reading Buddies at Rogers for the past three years, and has noticed many benefits the program has given to her students. “Definitely having the buddy builds the students’ confidence, so not only is it fantastic that they have a

Both donations allow San Antonio Youth Literacy the opportunity to continue to deliver its SAYL Reading Buddy Program to those children struggling to read on grade level.

Last month brought a number of offers for hosting book drives. It seems that word has gotten out that doing a book drive for Book Buddies is a fun, useful service project for all kinds of organizations. And indeed it is! It is easy to organize a drive at any neighborhood organization, sports team, house of worship, workplace, school — or anyplace else people
A huge thank you to the William Dean Charitable Foundation for their financial support of the SAYL Reading Buddy Program in the amount of $17,500. The foundation supports literacy and educational purposes and we are very honored to have them as a partner in our efforts to address the reading needs of San Antonio’s youth.
