Book Buddy News – September 2017

Book Buddies is all moved into our new headquarters in the gym of the former WW White School. Thanks to SAISD, the premises are freshly cleaned and sparkling for the new year of book drives. During our August 9 organizational meeting for the new school year, we set an ambitious (but obtainable) goal of 40,000 to 50,000 books. This doubles last year’s number, so it’s time for everybody to start thinking about getting going on those book drives! Anyone who needs advice or encouragement, please email bookbuddies@sayl.org.

Our partners have not been waiting for fall to get started, however. Whataburger’s headquarters ran a very successful drive under the guidance of Hattie Arnold that netted over 800 books for Book Buddies.

CPS Energy has yet again done a book drive yielding many boxes of great kids’ books.  And the ever-industrious Al Koppen has come through again this month with several hundred books gathered in Boerne for San Antonio’s kids.

Clearly Book Buddies did not rest on their laurels over the summer. The new headquarters space is starting to look like the old one, with piles of book boxes. But we still have plenty of space for the results of those book drives to come! Let us know when you want to do yours.
