The big Book Buddies news for November is Boxes! We were nearly all out of boxes to hold the books distributed to the schools in the spring when EcoBox came to our rescue. On October 6, EcoBox delivered three pallets of sturdy boxes to Book Buddies free of charge (pictured to the right). That’s 1,500 boxes! They saved our life, and we are grateful. Thank you, EcoBox!
Thank you, also, to the groups that came to Book Buddies World Headquarters this month to help sort and box up books. Valero Vanguard did their usual great job of being efficient and getting lots done while keeping everyone in good humor. UTSA VOICES pitched in, as did the Alpha Pi Omega service group from Trinity University. And lots of individual Book Buddies turned out to turn piles of random donated books into boxes of books neatly labeled by grade-level and amount. We have got a good start on next year’s Book Celebrations.
Thanks also to CPS Energy, who donated four boxes of backpacks and eight boxes of books to put into them. The backpacks have gone to the new SAISD parenting center on Houston Street to be used in their programs, as has the large number of new crayons we received as a donation. We are partnering with the parenting center to help build stronger families through developing home libraries.
Book Buddies Book Drive Coordinator Maria Salinas is keeping track of the drives being held around San Antonio by all kinds of groups. If you are part of any group — hold a book drive! The children we serve need every book we can collect. Let Book Buddies know if your group can hold a drive — it’s easy and fun, and we give you guidance. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for tips and ideas. We’ll even pick up the books when your drive is over. Please — let us know today that you would be interested in organizing a drive!
