Book Buddy News – March 2018

Book Buddies announces a new sign-up site. Because of the increased need for volunteers to sort the huge number of books we have this year, Book Buddies now has on-line registration for sorting/boxing sessions at our headquarters. Sign up for times in March and April. Please register for as many as possible. The site will allow you to sign up friends or groups, too, which is a great way to volunteer together. We need lots of volunteers to get all those books ready for the Book Giveaways at the end of May. We should be able to at least double our reach over last year if everyone pitches in.

And if you sign up — please show up! If a date seems filled to other volunteers checking our website, they won’t sign up, and then we are short-handed. If something comes up and you find you can’t make it on a date you’re signed up, please go in and remove your name. Thanks for being a responsible volunteer!

Volunteer News: Reagan High School Honor Society has been volunteering every other Monday evening. If you would like to join them, we have room. Please let Book Buddies know if you can volunteer any of these Monday evenings in March and April from 5:30 to 7:30:  3/12, 3/26, 4/16, 4/30. If you like, just email us your dates at bookbuddies@sayl.org.

Recent sortings have included volunteers from the Unitarian Church and Hill Country Retreat as well as family groups and others who want to help get books into the hands of at-risk children. Please find some times to join us; it’s fun and it’s easy! And it’s a good way to make new friends, too.

Book Donations: Book drives raising books for Book Buddies in February included Hill Country Retreat Lions, the Unitarian Universalist Church, and Al Koppen. Thanks to everyone who organized these drives and to everyone donating books to start children’s home libraries!
