San Antonio Youth Literacy

Our Mission for Youth Literacy

The mission of San Antonio Youth Literacy (SAYL) is to promote the literacy skills of San Antonio's at-risk youth.  SAYL trains volunteers to work one-on-one with elementary school-aged children who are reading below grade level.

SAYL provides opportunities for guided reading practice with a caring individual, fosters an enjoyment of reading, and enhances the motivation and self-esteem of at-risk children through the experience of reading.

Our Vision for San Antonio's Children

SAYL aspires to make an appreciable difference in the literacy skills of children who struggle with reading.

SAYL is committed to cut across ethnicity and socio-economic lines to bring together all sectors of the community to help San Antonio's children become literate and productive members of our city.
